Steve Reidell is —

a music composer and graphic designer from Chicago Illinois. Reidell is the former art director at Chicago’s legendary Metro and Smartbar music venues, a role that he found his way to while screenprinting concert posters after moving to the city two decades ago. He is also one-half of The Hood Internet, a duo known for a decade-plus’ worth of remixes and mixtapes comprised of oddball song blends sampled from different spheres of the music world. The Hood Internet started as an mp3 blog and grew fast, racking millions of streams worldwide, and soon found Reidell and partner Aaron Brink DJing regularly across North America and the globe, hitting festivals like Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo, and SXSW.

The Hood Internet’s long-running ear for editing and remixing landed Reidell and Brink the repeat job of overseeing and producing the music for YouTube Rewind, a widely viewed year-end recap produced by Google and Portal-A. They’ve also formed Air Credits, a collaboration between The Hood Internet and Chicago rap artist Clinton Sandifer aka Showyousuck. Air Credits’ song “All I Need (Part II)” recently soundtracked spots for Apple Watch and Apple Music Japan.

Reidell has worked on original music compositions for a variety of productions: The A.V. Club hired him to pen themes for two of their original series, Pick-A-Choice and The Serial Serial. Penguin/ Random House’s star-studded TASTE Podcast has a theme song from Reidell. He has worked with Ryan Elder Music (Rick And Morty, Harmontown) on producing music for the Netflix adult cartoon Inside Job, the YouTube Originals series Good Game, and the theme song for the FOX comedy show Party Over Here.

A collaboration with Los Angeles-based company Music And Strategy had Steve arranging, editing and composing additional music for Live Arts Global’s JOURNEY, a rock-dance performance helmed by Joanna DeFelice and Melanie Hamrick, which included some first-ever remixes of music from The Rolling Stones. Also featured in Reidell’s more recent work is the original score for the short film Robu, starring Jharrel Jerome (Moonlight, When They See Us) and Kazuki Kitamura (Kill Bill Vol. 1, Godzilla: Final Wars)

Steve’s work in the graphic arts has continued: limited-edition prints he created both during and after his tenure at Metro adorn the front hallways of the club. Additionally, he has worked with the storied music venue on video productions for their periodic anniversary celebrations. Reidell has designed packaging for multiple vinyl releases from independent labels, produced a number of full-length music videos, and has unfortunately participated in a variety of social media-centric memes and trends (generally music-related) as they have come and gone over the years. Most notably, he is currently the product designer for Haven Watch Co, an independent vintage-inspired watch microbrand from the Midwest.
